RJC Christmas at Knox (pictures and video)

It was a cold Sunday Dec 12 in Saskatoon. But inside Knox United Church, an appreciative audience warmed up to Chorale and Women's Choir at their annual Christmas Concert inside the beautiful and historic downtown Saskatoon church.  The concert rounded out with some student soloists and small groups.

The combined choirs of Chorale and Women's Choir in Knox United Church, Saskatoon.

The concert began with the opening chorale from J.S. Bach's Cantate #142 "Alleluia, gelobet sei Gott"

"Padre Nuestro" (The Lord's Prayer) by Paraguayan composer
Roberto Casino
The Women's Choir sang a few numbers as well.
Small groups and soloists had also prepared a few pieces.  Here a boy's quintet sing "O Holy, Silent Night."
A great crowd braved to cold to hear the choirs perform in the beautiful downtown Saskatoon church.

It was a beautiful end to a busy day which began with  both choirs singing at the morning worship service in Waldheim. An afternoon rehearsal in Knox was followed by supper out (for the whole group of singers, 45 of them!) Thanks to the Noodle King and Ice Cream Queen for accomodating such a large group.

Chorale Workshop with Jing Ling-Tam

Chorale was invited to be the demonstration choir at the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association Conference in Saskatoon on November 5. They were privileged to have Jing Ling-Tam from the University of Texas-Arlington work with them for an hour while delegates from the conference observed.

Here, Jing Ling-Tam works on the choir's physical balance. She is an amazing musician, educator, and has such a warm personality,  she can bring the best out of a group in short order!

The Chorale poses with Jing Ling-Tam and their director, Richard Janzen. What a fun and challenging workshop!

The choir also performed for the delegates for a noon hour concert. Many positive comments came our way after the concert. The choir did the school proud today!

Thank you to the Saskatchewan Choral Federation for ordering sandwiches and donuts for us at a local Tim Horton's.  It was a long morning, and lunch arrived at Tim's at 2:00 pm. The choir was very hungry by then!

Enjoying the Tim Horton's sandwiches under a beautiful November sky.

Fall Concert Videos

Here are some videos from the Fall Concert on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

More on the RJC YouTube page.

Fall Choir Workshop

39 students spent the weekend on campus in a choir workshop, learning new songs and a lot about singing in a choir.  The Saskatoon Youth Orchestra was on campus at the same time, holding their own Fall Workshop.  That brought the weekend total to over 100 students on campus! The two groups combined forces for a concert on Sunday afternoon. September 26. (Video to come)

The students sang through almost 12 hours of rehearsal! The RJC choir was directed by Richard Janzen. The pianist for the weekend was Audrey Falk Janzen.

The Saskatoon Youth Orchestra is directed by Richard Carnegie. Here the choir and orchestra is rehearsing "Pavane" by Gabriel Fauré.

Thank you to the RJC Kitchen Staff and Kara Buhler who provided nutrition breaks for the choir.

Jordan Wiens and Adam Rempel attempt to resolve a CFL dispute during one of the breaks.  The 'Riders won bragging rights this weekend.

It was a beautiful weekend, so one of the rehearsals was held outside in the gazebo (which is behind the photographer.)

The SYO and RJC Choirs have been cooperating for the fall concert since 1993! We appreciate the association and look forward to more in following years.
