Chorale at ChorFest Saskatchewan

Chorale travelled to Regina to participate in the first ever ChorFest Saskatchewan, organized by the Saskatchewan Choral Federation. ChorFest gave participating choirs the chance to sing with and for experts in the field of choral music, such as musica intima (a professional 8 voice choir from Vancouver) and clinicians Dr. Elroy Friesen (University of Manitoba), Mark Sirett (composer, conductor - Cantabile Choirs of Kingston),  and Jordan Travis (Toronto Northern Lights Barbershop Chorus, Bach Children's Chorus of Toronto). This was a busy and inspiring event for Chorale!

Monday morning the choir even had some TV time when CTV Morning Live featured them in three short live hits regarding the event.

Chorale began the weekend by singing at Grace Mennonite Church in Regina for the Sunday morning worship service.

Members of musics intima gave very close attention to the singers, working them very hard on things live vowels and listening.

musica intima gave short concert for the ChorFest participants.

Chorale enjoyed a leisurely supper out on Sunday.

After a live performance for the judges, Chorale was worked by Dr. Elroy Friesen who challenged them to find "the next level."

Some coming events - Guys & Pies, PTV Concert, and Festival of Choirs

There a few great events coming very soon - almost right after the February Break. These are great events to attend!

Guys & Pies. This is the annual fundraiser for RJC where you eat some great pie, listen to great singing and have fun bidding on cakes. A Buncha Guys never fails to disappoint, and the RJC ManChoir has been working up a few pieces of their own for the evening.

Chorale will be a guest performer at a concert at Rosthern Mennonite Church on March 6. The visiting Pembina Trails Voices are from Winnipeg, and feature 3 very exciting vocal groups of high school singers. They are directed by David Sawatzky and Janet Brennamen (Janet also teaches at Canadian Mennonite University.) This will be a very entertaining evening of high quality choral singing! There are no advance sales of tickets. $5 admission at the door.

Last year's Festival of Choirs was a resounding success, this year promises to be equal to the task. Canadian Mennonite University Singers and The Station Singers of Rosthern will join Chorale at Third Avenue United Church in Saskatoon on March 16 for a feast of singing. Admission is free. A collection will be taken to support the programs at RJC and CMU.
